CUSTOM WELDING SERVICES

At Southern Metal Fabricators , we’re well versed in the codes and requirements that govern custom metal fabrication. Familiar with ASME and American Welding Society protocols, as well as Canadian welding standards, we provide quality products and supporting documentation every step of the way.

Our Welding Equipment

  • Stud Welders
    2 machines — capacities to 7/8″ diameter

  • MIG Welders
    21 machines — capacities to 450 amp

  • TIG Welders
    4 machines — capacities to 300 amp

Welding Quality Control

To ensure everything is correct with the custom metal fabrication projects we ship, we assemble them to the fullest extent possible before they leave our shop. This means two things: In the first place, we put together all assemblies and subassemblies to check that everything fits together as planned. While we’re doing this, we document everything and send photographs and paperwork to our customers to approve before shipping.

Second, we ship assemblies and subassemblies in the most complete forms possible. For example, it’s rare that a huge tank will be able to ship fully assembled, so we send large subassemblies that are subsequently assembled on site. On the other hand, it usually isn’t a problem to ship fully assembled carts or ladders.

Welding Quality Control

Our main welding process is MIG gas metal arc welding, but we also have TIG welders and stud welding machines

Certified Welding

All of our custom welding services are delivered with the certifications specified by our customers. As a rule, we follow the stringent welding standards specified by the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB).

Working with World Testing, we have developed a formal Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) that conforms to ASME Section 9 and are certified to fabricate carbon-steel tanks that conform to the API-650 standard.

We are also qualified to weld structural steel according to the American Welding Society AWS D1.1 (carbon steel above 1/8” gauge) and AWS D1.6 standards (stainless steel above 1/16” gauge).
